The Light Fantastic by SCIN™
Light is ephemeral and uncontainable as it moves and flows into our spaces, delimitating areas and conditioning moods. Light can be discrete or the protagonist but there is no doubt about the difference it makes in architecture.
How can the medium of light be understood as a tangible material?
Light is an important factor in Architecture, it not only enhances the appreciation of its features and materials it is also a powerful force that can create emotional effects on people. A warm light, a cool light or glow in the dark can take us into different experiences.
The main natural source of light on Earth is the Sun although we cant forget bioluminescent sources that come from nature as well. On the other hand artificial light traditionally requires electricity. Its impact on the environment is important to bare in mind, which is why the development of exciting materials that use light and lighting in the most energy efficient way are taking centre stage, in order to preserve our planet.
Surface finishes, materials, shape, colour, and form, are some of the key elements that interact with light, feeding back to us perceptions and impressions. Playing with shadows and spaces, light reveals itself in exciting new ways and enhances and changes the way we interact with materials.
In our exhibition we will take you though an enlightened journey where light and darkness will heighten your interaction as you explore material innovations. You will discover how materials reflect light, by using fine glass granules, or diachroic films making spaces more luminous or materials that transmit light into your environment using fiber optics or filters. And what happens when you absorb light into absolute darkness like the patented blackest Vantablack, or use materials to transform it into energy? Exciting materials that play with light, creating interactive spaces like translucent ceramics or glow in the dark bricks.Back to home page
