The Light Fantastic by SCIN™
There is no doubt about the difference light makes in architecture. It is ephemeral and uncontainable as it moves and flows in our spaces, delimitating areas and conditioning moods. Light can be discrete or the protagonist.
How can the medium of light be understood as a tangible material?
Light enhances architectural features and materials while also being a powerful emotional force that creates different experiences.
The main natural source of light is the sun but there are also natural bioluminescent sources.
Artificial light traditionally requires electricity but the development of exciting energy efficient materials is taking centre stage in order to preserve our planet.
Surface finishes, materials, shapes, colours, and forms are some of the key elements that interact with light. Playing with shadows and spaces, light reveals itself in exciting new ways and effects the way we interact with materials.
This exhibition will take you on an enlightened journey where light and darkness will heighten your interaction with material innovations. You will discover how materials reflect light through the use of fine glass granules, how diachroic films make spaces more luminous and how materials transmit light using fibre optics or filters. You will find out what happens when light is absorbed into absolute darkness, like the patented blackest Vantablack, and how certain materials can transform light into energy. Exciting materials that play with light to create interactive spaces, such as translucent ceramics and glow in the dark bricks, will also be exhibited.Back to home page
